WELCOME
This is an exciting time to be a psychiatrist!
There's an explosion of knowledge in the fields of genetics and neuroscience that is beginning to give us an understanding of the role of disordered brain circuits in psychiatric illnesses and psychological problems. At the same time, we now have a number of cognitive-behavioral protocols for the treatment of the psychological facet of mood disorders (depression and bipolar disorder), anxiety disorders, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, and other illnesses. These protocols are active, structured, and often shorter-term psychotherapeutic approaches based on solid research evidence.
In my practice, I utilize an integrative approach to patient care. Patients are treated with cognitive therapy or one of the other cognitive-behavioral therapies alone or with a combination of cognitive-behavioral therapy and medication. I have an interest in psychopharmacology as well as an interest in psychotherapy, and my dual interests enable me to better tailor the treatment to the needs of the individual patient.
